What is a Big Fun custom comic?

A Big Fun custom comic is a 12-panel black and white (or color) comic strip featuring you or a loved one as the superhero. You can choose from the following story themes: “What I Love About….”, “What’s Great About…..”, or “The Many Sides of…”.

Who draws the comic?

Adam Holzman, founder and doodler extraordinaire, started out penning his comic pages for friends and family while waiting for gigs to start, his first vocation being a keyboard player in his own band, Brave New World, and in the past, with Miles Davis and Chaka Khan. His drawings immortalize his son Russell, his wife Jane, his Dad, his Mom, and others, in personalized comic strips that tell the story of their lives.

What exactly do I get?

One 9" x 12" comic strip with 12 panels, drawn on white art board using black India ink and Prismacolor pencils.

If you like, we will be happy to email you a scanned jpeg of your comic so you can send it to all your friends!

What would be a good occasion for a Big Fun Comic?

Create a comic for a birthday (especially a milestone—sweet sixteen, the big 21, 30, 40, 50, 60, 75, 100!), retirement party, Mother’s or Father’s Day, Valentine’s Day, or end-of-year holidays cards or Happy New Year’s cards. You can also order a custom comic birth announcement!

How much does a custom comic cost?

A black & white one-page original comic strip will cost you $285 ($385 for color), plus shipping and handling...just slightly more practical than that $7,500 action-figure-of-yourself recently viewed in the Neiman Marcus Christmas catalog.

Is framing available?

Yes, we have frames! Frames are $40, including additional shipping costs. Please inquire about styles and colors.

How do you pay?

At the moment, only personal or certified checks or money orders are accepted. Work on each order begins once the check has cleared. Satisfaction Guaranteed! There are no refunds but we work closely with you to make sure you're happy with your comic!

How long does it take to receive the comic?

Four-to-six weeks from receipt of order and payment. Check must clear before work will begin.

What if I need the comic sooner than 4-6 weeks?

Please contact us for other options (gift cards, rush fee, etc.)

Are there other story options?

Yes, we have our "Wild Adventure" format!

If you want to tap into your inner Stan Lee (for you non-geeks out there, that’s the guy who created Spiderman), you can collaborate on a full-color custom adventure story. See the sample page for an example. However, full-color adventures cost more than the standard strip, with prices starting at $485. Email Adam for a price quote.
